There’s one way to keep your spring bulbs happy, improve your soil and avoid water logging them.

It’s pretty easy really, improve your soil before planting. For most bulbs plant them at 3 times their depth, up to 6 inches apart – closer together if you want them to support each other. If, like me, you’re a bit of a newbie … you’ll be pleased to hear there’s lots of advice out there.

Improving your soil means breaking it up and adding compost and other materials such as gravel to it in order to improve fertility and drainage.
